Tampa General Hospital’s Advanced Illness Management Services

Jonathan “Jon” Yob is an award-winning philanthropist and entrepreneur in Tampa, Florida, as well as a previous Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. He serves as the president of the JAY Management Corporation and the Yob Family Foundation, the latter of which has contributed to causes such as the palliative care unit at Tampa General Hospital (TGH). In 2020, Jonathan Yob’s foundation provided $100,000 for TGH to launch its proposed Advanced Illness Management Services.

The palliative care unit provides medical care for people with serious illnesses and focuses on reducing symptoms related to the condition or its treatment so that patients and their families have support and comfort. In order to improve the quality of these efforts, TGH plans to create an Advanced Illness Management Service that supports the facility’s growing patient population and its oncology center. It will feature palliative-care centered telehealth and physical components, the former of which will accommodate up to 10 patients a day. Additionally, it will integrate palliative care in the oncology center to expand services.

Furthermore, TGH intends for the Advanced Illness Management Service to handle patient referrals from oncology, primary care, cardiology, and pulmonary providers; identify high-risk patients within the community; and offer pain and symptom management to boost patient quality of life.
